Apply for care level in Frankfurt

If home care is needed, the care level is often an important step. Pflege Daheim explains clearly to family members how to prepare for the application, assessment and care advice.

Classification

When a care level is important

A care level may become important when a person regularly needs support in daily life: with personal hygiene, mobility, eating, medication organisation, care or household tasks. The application is submitted to the long-term care insurance fund.

After the application, the situation is usually reviewed by the Medical Service or another responsible authority. Pflege Daheim cannot guarantee a classification, but can help family members describe the situation at home clearly and consider appropriate care services.

Process

Apply for care level: the main steps

The exact processing lies with the Pflegekasse. However, relatives can benefit from a simple overview of what typically follows one another.

1

Claim with the long-term care insurance fund

The application is submitted to the long-term care insurance fund of the insured person. This can often start informally.

2

Prepare for the assessment.

Notes about daily life are helpful: where is help needed, how often, by whom and what limitations are there?

3

Notice and next steps

After the decision, it can be discussed which care services are suitable at home.

Preparation

What family members can prepare

No perfect preparation is needed for a consultation. However, helpful information includes: What support is needed in the morning, during the day or in the evening? Is there a doctor's order? Who helps currently? Which tasks can family members no longer manage alone?

Existing documents can also be helpful, for example, letters from the long-term care insurance fund, doctor's orders, medication plan or a short list of the most important daily situations. Please do not send any sensitive medical details via the contact form.

Care level, care allowance, care benefits in kind

In simple terms: The care level describes the recognised level of support needed. Care allowance is relevant when care is organised oneself. Care benefits in kind can be used for services from an ambulante Pflegedienst. Which benefit is appropriate should be individually assessed with the Pflegekasse and during the advisory home visit.

Reference to care at home

What becomes important after the care level is determined

After an application or decision, a common question often arises: How should the help at home look in detail? Then basic personal care, prescribed home nursing, support, respite care or care advice may become relevant.

Pflege Daheim supports in planning care at home in Frankfurt-Zeilsheim and the confirmed service area in a clear way.
